Hathni Kund or Hathni Kund dam is basically a natural site which is a water reservoir surrounded by natural beauty. The highlight of the place is the beautiful trek used to reach this kund. The trek travels through valleys and lush greenery of Aravalli hills mingled with the sound of chirping birds and the rustle of leaves. The stunning scenery, lined by rocky and hilly trails, sand dunes, deep forests, old relics of temples, and the cascading waterfall makes it one of the best tourist destinations near Jaipur, for adventure seekers, nature buffs and photography lovers.

History of Hathni Kund
Hathni Kund is a natural site with a history intertwined with local legends. It is believed that royal families once used this spot for hunting and royal leisure. According to the locals, the name Hathni Kund derives from the local Rajasthani word which refers to one of the four directions. Locals say that the origin of the River Dravyavati which flows through Jaipur city is Hathni Kund. They believe that there was a big Dam built by Raja Sawai Madho Singh II. The dam was shattered in the 1982 floods in Jaipur and hence the Hathni Kund came into existence.
While not a site of major historical events, Hathni Kund’s charm lies in its natural allure and the simple, enduring appeal of its landscape. Over time, it has gained popularity as a spot for picnics and nature walks, especially during the monsoon season when the waterfall is in full flow.

The trekking route to reach Hathni Kund
There are two routes to reach Hathni Kund trek:
Through Nahargarh: Through this route, the Hathni Kund trek starts from the very famous and well-known Charan Temple, devoted to Lord Hanuman. This Hanuman temple Hathni Kund is 4 kilometers from Nahargarh. Hathni Kund is actually behind the Charan Temple. There is a forest trail to reach the Kund, beginning just from the left side of the temple. The route from this pathway is shorter and comparatively less dangerous than the other one.
Through Vidhyadhar Nagar Jungle: This is a less explored route, which passes through the dense forest and is also a long way to reach Hathni Kund. Wild animals like Black Panther and leopards roam around this route, so if you are trekking via this route try to take a guide with you or go with extra precautions.

The Hathni Kund trek starting point is Charan Temple, a historic temple that is a major landmark on the way to Nahargarh Fort. There is an extreme crowd during the weekends being a favorite Jaipur sunrise point among locals. From the Charan Mandir, take the path that mentions a clear marking to reach Hathni Kund. You will notice many people trekking via this route during the monsoon season.

As you descend the trail from Charan Mandir to Hathni Kund, the walk passes through several fascinating ancient temples and fort ruins amidst the refreshing views of the mountains and forests. The trail has a line of Dhok trees on both sides and a variety of flora. What is the Best Time to Visit Hathni Kund?
The best time to visit Hathni Kund is the Monsoon season, from July to September. The scenery during the rainy season is incomparable. The surrounding hills are lush and green, water is cascading down the rocks, sky is full of birds chirping, and you could literally hear even the peacock’s voices. The entire region around the Kund looks exquisite and refreshing, enhancing the natural beauty of the area.
During the monsoon season, cooler temperatures and occasional rain showers make trekking to Hathni Kund Jaipur more enjoyable. The post-monsoon period can also be a good time to visit, as the area remains green, and the weather is still pleasant. Though there are chances that the waterfall will be dry and you will not get to see the waterfall.
However, it’s advisable to avoid visiting during the summer months (April to June). This time temperatures are soaring, making the trek and outdoor activities challenging.
Tips to keep in mind
- The total trek distance is 3 KM and it will take around 2-3 hours to complete the trekking journey.
- Carry a water bottle with you to keep yourself hydrated. Wear a good pair of trekking shoes as the trail is steep and has stones.
- Be aware of monkeys and other animals and insects. As it is a forest way, there are chances you might encounter them.
- Maintain cleanliness in nature. Do not throw any garbage in the open. Always try to make our surroundings clean for our next fellow trekkers.
- While the trek is open on all days, one must not take night trips here.

Hathni Kund is located at a distance of 17 kilometers from the main city of Jaipur. Situated on Amber Road, the temple is easily accessible from the Nahargarh Fort route. The Hathni Kund distance from Charan mandir is approximately 1-1.25 Km, one way. In all one will cover a distance of approximately 3 km both ways.

If you are doing a trek on your own, it is free. Some people have started the organized trek to Hathni Kund. The Hathni Kund Ticket Price is from Rs 75 to Rs 100.
Parking
There is an ample amount of parking in front of Charan Mandir. You can easily park your car and bikes. From the temple, you can start the hike to Hathni Kund by leaving your car and bicycle there.
