Winter is wreaking havoc in the state. The continuous icy wind and dense fog has left people stranded in many cities of Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the next two days, indicating the possibility of severe cold conditions. Also, the winter holidays in government and private schools in Jaipur have been extended. 

The day temperature in eight cities of the state dropped 8 degrees below normal. Due to dense fog, there is a chill in these cities even during the day. The hill station Mount Abu, experienced the coldest night with the temperature recorded at minus 3 degrees Celsius. Apart from Mount Abu, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer and Udaipur also had the coldest night of the season and remained under dense fog. While all the districts of Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions were affected by fog.

Severe cold conditions in 11 cities

Cold wind blew throughout the day in Rajasthan yesterday. Cold-day conditions prevailed in 14 districts including Jaipur, Bikaner, Alwar. There was a light layer of fog in these cities throughout the day, which increased after evening. As the evening approached, the melting intensified due to light cold winds. The effect of severe cold was visible in the cities at night, where the movement of people in the markets after 8 pm reduced compared to normal days. 

Sun has not been seen since last one week

Most of the districts in the state are in the grip of dense fog. The maximum impact of fog has been in Ganganagar and Hanumangarh in northern Rajasthan. People here have not seen the sun for the last 7 days. Due to this, the temperature in these cities has remained below 14 degrees Celsius for the last one week. People here have to save themselves from the cold by lighting bonfires even during the day.

Orange alert in these districts today

Weather Center Jaipur has issued an orange cold-day alert for Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Bikaner, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Jaipur, Dholpur, Bharatpur and Alwar districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Udaipur.

Two days of extreme cold, Mavath from 7

There are chances of extremely cold days from the 7th onwards. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog and extreme cold conditions are prevailing in the state for the next two days. A new western disturbance will be active from January 7 and there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Udaipur, Kota division. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder in some parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner, Bharatpur divisions on 8-9 January.

Fog’s effect in these areas, life affected

On Thursday morning, thick clouds remained in Bikaner, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Bharatpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Baran, Jhalawar, Bundi, Kota, Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Ajmer, Nagaur, Bhilwara, Tonk. Life was affected due to this. Visibility was 50 to 100 meters due to fog.
