India is on high alert after a devastating terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam region on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including Indian and foreign tourists. The attack, described as the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, has triggered heightened security measures across major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Amritsar.

In Jaipur, police have intensified patrolling at key locations such as Jaipur Junction and Amer Fort, while security has been visibly stepped up at other tourist hotspots. Similar measures have been implemented in Delhi and Mumbai, with increased surveillance at public places, transport hubs, and border checkpoints. Rapid action teams have been deployed in sensitive zones to ensure public safety.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar shortly after the attack to review the security situation and direct immediate counter-terror measures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, has cut short his trip and is expected to chair a high-level meeting to address the crisis.

The attack occurred in the remote Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination accessible only by trek or horseback. Security agencies are on high alert, particularly as US Vice President JD Vance is currently in India for an official visit.
