In a move to remove squatters from the markets an anti squatter drive will be launched within the walled city of Jaipur. This initiative will help to retain and maintain the tag of the UNESCO world heritage site of Jaipur. The operation will be in action for 17 days.

The deputy commissioner of the Hawa Mahal zone has requested the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) to grant them permission to start the drive.

According to Surendra Yadav, This drive will remove the encroachments from the verandahs and markets of the walled city. The residents and tourists find it difficult to commute as many shopkeepers and vendors have encroached the markets of the area. This was under planning for a long time.

As per the JMC officials, this move is nowhere related to the old city being a no construction zone.

The walled city has been declared as a no construction zone. However, the orders were not taken seriously and illegal construction can be seen inside and around the city. Many illegal buildings can be seen near Johari bazaar and Kishan pole bazar. Anti encroachment drive to operate in the walled city from Jan 2020

Yadav said This drive will be done only to remove encroachment and not the illegal constructions. The illegal constructions will only be removed after the notification of heritage bylaws and the committee under which illegal buildings are formed. The committee will take into consideration of drone survey done earlier.
