Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out with a populist budget with a focus on youth, the unemployed and women. He presented his last budget before the state assembly poll as he holds the portfolio of the finance minister as well.
Key announcements
- The free Electricity Unit limit extended from 50 units to 100 units per month for domestic consumers.
- Drinking water facility for all high-rise buildings in the state.
- Free food packets every month for beneficiaries of NFSA.
- Amid the paper leak row, the state proposed a one-time registration to appear in competitive exams for job aspirants. Thus, youths won’t have to pay multiple fees for different government job exams.
- Govt to form a Special Task Force under the – SOG to Stop question paper leaks.
- Medical cover under Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme has increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh/year per family.
- EWS families will be given the benefit of the Chiranjeevi scheme. The accident insurance amount will be increased from 5 lakh to 10 lakh under the scheme.
- Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries to get LPG cylinders at Rs 500. At least 76 lakh families to benefit from LPG subsidy.
- New medical colleges to come up in three districts of the state and Marwar Medical University will be constructed in Jodhpur.
- Government to give electric two-wheelers to girl students. Free Scooty to meritorious students extended from 20,000 to 30,000.
- Free education for all students till Class 12th under RTE
- Rs 30,000 financial help to students doing research
- Rs 500 crore for skill development of youths
- Free bus travel for students up to 75 kms
- Women will now have to pay only 50% fare for roadways
- Women will be given Rs 5,000 for sewing machines
- 30 thousand sweepers will be recruited in Rajasthan.
- Rajiv Gandhi Aviation University to be set up in Jaipur
- Establishment of APJ Abdul Kalam Institute of Biotechnology in Jaipur at a cost of Rs 300 crores.
- 1,000 more Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Schools to be established in Rajasthan.
- Rajasthan Government allocates Rs 150 crore Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Olympiad.
