The seven-day Katha, which commenced on May 1 at Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium, was originally scheduled to conclude on May 7. However, the sheer number of attendees exceeded expectations, leading to concerns over crowd control. Police officials, citing safety risks, instructed the organizers to prematurely end the event on May 3 to prevent any mishaps.
This decision came in the wake of a similar incident in Churu district last month, where overcrowding at a Katha event resulted in a stampede-like situation, leaving three people injured. Authorities in Jaipur were determined to avoid a repeat of such chaos, especially with sudden rainfall and strong winds adding to the challenges.
Event Resumes After Assurances from Organizers
Following discussions between the event organizers, police, and administration officials, assurances were given regarding improved crowd management and safety measures. In response, Pandit Pradeep Mishra issued a video statement, confirming that the Katha would proceed as originally scheduled.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from devotees, many of whom had traveled from across Rajasthan and neighboring states to attend the spiritual gathering. Organizers have now implemented stricter entry regulations and additional security measures to ensure a smooth continuation of the event.
Security Measures Tightened Amid Theft Concerns
Apart from crowd control, security personnel have also been on high alert due to reports of chain snatching incidents at the venue. Jaipur police recently arrested 32 suspects, including 27 women, who had allegedly traveled from different states with the intent to commit thefts during the event.
