Jaipur to Pioneer North India’s First Bio-Mining Waste Plant

Jaipur to Get North India’s First Bio-Mining Waste Plant – Trial Starts Next Month

News

Jaipur | July 30, 2025 — In a landmark move towards sustainable waste management, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has announced that the city will host North India’s first large-scale bio-mining waste plant. A trial run is expected to begin next month, targeting heaps of legacy waste at sites like Langadiyawas and Mathuradaspura.

This initiative is set to dramatically transform Jaipur’s approach to waste disposal, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Smart Cities Mission.

What is Bio-Mining?

Bio-mining is a green method of extracting valuable resources and compostable matter from waste using microbial and mechanical techniques. It reduces the need for landfill space while recovering usable materials.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  • Trial Phase Begins: August 2025
  • Target Sites: Langadiyawas and Mathuradaspura dumping yards
  • Estimated Waste Volume: Over 15 lakh tonnes of legacy waste
  • Implementing Agencies: JMC + Private Waste Management Firms
  • Technology Used: Trommel machines, segregators, composting units

Why It Matters:

This bio-mining plant is expected to:

  • Reclaim over 150 acres of land occupied by waste
  • Prevent groundwater and air pollution in nearby zones
  • Create temporary jobs during waste segregation and treatment
  • Make Jaipur a model for urban green innovation

Official Comment:

JMC Commissioner, Himanshu Gupta, said:

“This pilot bio-mining project could be a game-changer for Jaipur. Not only are we addressing the health hazards of legacy waste, but we’re also setting a benchmark for other North Indian cities.”

What’s Next?

  • Trial begins: August 2025
  • Review and performance analysis: October 2025
  • Full-scale operations expected by early 2026

Know Your Role as a Citizen:
