Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater region has introduced a new rule for meat sellers. It is now compulsory for meat shops to display ‘Jhatka’ or ‘Halal’ outside their shops. Action will be taken against illegal meat shops and licenses would be given only on commercial leases. In addition to this, meat shops are now restricted in stalls and residential areas.
This decision has been approved by Dr Saumya Gurjar, the Mayor of Greater Municipal Corporation. The decision was made during the fourth meeting of the executive committee.
According to the information, the renewal of licenses for meat shops will only be granted if shops prove they’re operating in a commercial area, not a residential one. This comes alongside a new rule requiring shops to label meat as ‘Halal’ or ‘Jhatka,’ unlike Uttar Pradesh which is debating shop nameplates.
Jaipur implements meat shop regulations
The new rule comes days after the recent announcement of the Jaipur civic body that meat shops operating without commercial lease licenses in the city will be closed. It was also decided to clear out a backlog of lease applications in the Municipal Corporation within a month.
As per Jaipur Greater civic body, complaints were continuously received that licenses for shops were obtained for one type of business but were being used for entirely different purposes. Taking cognisance of these complaints, it has now been made mandatory for shops to provide information about whether they sell ‘halal’ or ‘jhatka’ meat.
Survey of shops to be executed
Moreover, it is expected that a survey will be executed to verify the locations of these shops and the extent to which they are complying with the rules. The Municipal Corporation is completing all essential preparations to enforce these rules, which will be implemented very soon. They are instructing licensed shops to show their permits and unlicensed shops to get commercial licenses as soon as possible.
