A 40-year-old Jaipur businessman, identified as Manmohan Soni, committed suicide by shooting himself with a licensed revolver at his house in the Shashtri Nagar area of Jaipur around 10.30 am on Wednesday. He used to run a departmental store.
He cited his partner of cheating as the reason for suicide by making a video. Soni’s family has lodged a police complaint against his partner, Satyarth Tiwari for defrauding and threatening the businessman of Rs 7 crore. Satyarth Tiwari’s father Ramesh Chand Tiwari is a retired police officer.
Manmohan Soni lived in Swarnakar Colony opposite Rajasthan Police Academy in Shastri Nagar and owned a departmental store near Panipech Tiraha. Manmohan was in his room and shot himself in the chest with his licensed revolver at around 10.30 am on Wednesday.
Manmohan’s wife Neetu Soni (39), son Yash (20), his mother and wife of younger brother Rohit Soni were present in the house when the incident took place. They heard a gunshot and rushed into Soni’s bedroom. He was found lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to nearby Kanwatia Hospital in a car but the doctors declared him dead.
The family members of the businessman alleged that Soni was depressed over the cheating and harassment due to which he took the extreme step. Satyarth used to run a finance company in which Manmohan had invested about Rs 7 crore. He refused to return the money to Soni and used to threaten him.
Have attempted suicide earlier too
Soni tried to commit suicide many times. Two years ago, he tried to attempt suicide by consuming sleeping pills; however, he survived. The family lodged a case against the partner, but he also lodged a cross FIR. The matter was pending in court. The family members said that Soni was depressed because he had to appear in court for hearings several times over the past two years.
In his suicide video he accused Satyarth Tiwari, Yarthat Tiwari, Ramesh Chand Tiwari, Annie Bhardwaj and Lokraj Pareek responsible for the suicide. He requested to get justice for his family and punish the accused.
Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar police reached the spot as soon as the news of the businessman’s death came. Police have started an investigation, a forensic team was also called in.
