From 1 December 2019, it will be mandatory to install FASTags on vehicles passing through Toll Plaza. More than 7 million FASTags have been issued till now.
This is a major move of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to relieve people from queuing in long lines at the toll plaza of the National Highway. The National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program has been implemented across the country to eliminate traffic congestion and facilitate traffic collection. This initiative will also promote digital payments.
From the 1st of next month, the Central Government will make FASTags mandatory on the toll plaza. After this, vehicles passing through any toll plaza of the country will have to fasten. After its implementation, vehicles without FASTags will have to now pay up twice the normal rate at toll gates across the country.
Therefore, you must get one fast if you don’t have it already.
What is FASTags?
The Fastag Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag is the prepaid rechargeable tags which will be affixed on the vehicle’s windscreen. After applying this, if you take a car and go through the toll plaza, then there is no need to stop. The cameras on the toll plaza will scan it and the amount will be automatically deducted from your account. However, for this, it is necessary that your FASTags must be recharged. FASTags will work only on the national highways and is not effective for state highways. FASTags can be recharged through the My FASTag app.
