A recent directive from St. Angela Sophia School in Jaipur has ignited a heated debate. The school issued a notice instructing students not to bring Holi colours to the premises, warning that any violation would result in a ban from examinations.

The notice, signed by the school principal, emphasized the need for a safe and positive environment for all students. “We seek your support in reminding your ward about this request. We trust that with your cooperation, we can maintain a happy and harmonious atmosphere at school. If any student is found with colours, they may not be allowed to appear for the examination,” the notice read.

However, the directive has drawn sharp criticism from Rajasthan’s School Education Minister, Madan Dilawar. He argued that the order hurts the religious sentiments attached to the festival of Holi. “Holi is a part of our cultural identity. It is wrong to stop it. We will complain to CBSE against the decision of the school,” Dilawar stated.

In response to the backlash, the school principal, Sister Cynthia, clarified that the restriction was only meant for synthetic and chemical colours, which could cause harm or allergies. She explained that the celebration would take place on March 12 after the students’ exams, using natural colours and flowers. “We want the students to enjoy Holi without any risks. Our celebration will use flowers instead of colours to ensure everyone’s safety and avoid allergies or injuries from synthetic colours,” she added.

The controversy has sparked a broader discussion about the balance between cultural traditions and safety measures in educational institutions. As the debate continues, the school remains firm in its commitment to ensuring a safe environment for its students while respecting the cultural significance of Holi
