Rajasthan Bags 5 Padma Awards to IAS officers, Paralympians

Five personalities from Rajasthan have received Padma awards. Two of them Padma Bhushan and three Padma Shri.

On the eve of Republic Day, the Central Government has announced the Padma Awards. A total of 128 eminent people were chosen for the awards, including five from the state. The awards were given in three categories – Padma Vibushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

Five personalities from Rajasthan have received Padma awards. Two of them Padma Bhushan and three Padma Shri. Padma Bhushan has been announced for Paralympic medalist Devendra Jhajharia and IAS officer Rajiv Mehrishi. While Paralympic medalist Avani Lekhara, filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi and artist Ramdayal Sharma will be given the Padma Shri. 

Apart from this, it has been announced posthumously to confer Padma Vibhushan to Kalyan Singh, former Governor of Rajasthan.

Avani won two medals in Paralympics

Avni Lekhara, a resident of Jaipur, won two medals in shooting in the Tokyo Paralympics last year. Avani Lakhera has scripted history by becoming the first to win the gold medal in the Summer Paralympics in Tokyo 2020. In the year 2012, on the day of Mahashivratri, 11-year-old Avni had an accident. Despite this, she did not give up and continued to practice by staying in a wheelchair. 

Devendra Jhajharia won Paralympic medals three times. 

Devendra is originally from Devipura village in Churu district. He is the first para-athlete of the country to receive Padma Bhushan. Devendra Jhajhariya was badly injured after being hit by a high-tension line while climbing on a tree in childhood. His left hand had to be amputated at the elbow. Devendra gradually started playing javelin throw. Devendra has won 3 medals (two gold and one silver) in javelin throw for India in the Paralympic Games. He has won gold in the 2004 Athens Paralympics and 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro and a silver medal in 2020 at Tokyo Paralympics. 

Film director Chandraprakash Dwivedi 

The director of the film Prithviraj, Chandraprakash Dwivedi hails from Dodwa village in the Sirohi district in the state. The film director Chandraprakash Dwivedi has made famous films like Pinjar, Mohalla Assi. Before this, he played the epic role of Chanakya in serials. He is the director and writer of the upcoming Bollywood film starring Akshay Kumar, ‘Prithviraj’. 

IAS officer Rajiv Mehrishi

The next to receive the Padma Bhushan was the decorated retired IAS officer Rajiv Mehrishi who served as the chief secretary of the state. He was promoted as the Union finance secretary and drove to the home secretary from August 2015 to August 2017.

Ram Dayal Sharma the artist, was born in Samai village in Deeg Tehsil of Bharatpur. He learnt the art of storytelling, composing music and singing from his uncles during childhood. He became popular for his artistic skills and started his shows not only in UP, MP, Bihar but also in several countries.
