Jaipur-Mumbai train firing: 4 shot dead including ASI of Rajasthan

ASI of Rajasthan died in Jaipur-Mumbai train firing; 3 passengers killed, RPF constable opened fire on duty in a running train.

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable opened fire with his automatic rifle killing 4 on-board a in running train near the Palghar railway station in Maharashtra including RPF including an Assistant Sub-Inspector and 3 other passengers from Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express. 

At around 6 am, RPF constable Chetan Kumar opened fire inside the moving Jaipur Express Train and killed 4 men. He has been under custody by Government Railway Police (GRP) in Borivali. After killing his senior, the constable went to another bogie and shot dead three passengers. Forensic team sealed the train booth.

The deceased ASI Tikaram Meena was a resident of Shyampura in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. He was the only one in the house and was about to retire after 6 months. Tikaram’s went on duty a month ago. 

He has father Ramkaran meena, mother Bhuri Devi, wife Barfi Devi, a son and daughter in the house. His son Dilkush Meena is married and preparing for a competitive exam. His daughter Pooja is also married.

Announcement of compensation

Western Railway has issued a statement announcing the compensation. Western Railway said, “15 lakh rupees will be given to the relatives of the late ASI from Railway Safety Welfare Fund, 15 lakh rupees from death or retirement fund. Apart from these, 20 thousand rupees will be given to the dependents of the deceased for the last rites and 65 thousand rupees under the insurance scheme.”

According to the Western Railway, “After crossing Palghar station, RPF constable Chetan opened fire inside the moving train. The incident took place in coach B-5 of the train between Vapi to Borivali-Mira road in Palghar, Maharashtra. The constable had jumped from the train near Dahisar station after the murder. GRP Mumbai jawans have rounded up the constable between Mira Road-Borivali.”

GRP jawans caught

GRP Mumbai jawans chased Constable Chetan and caught him and recovered the weapon. At present, the GRP is investigating why the jawan did this? People were in panic after the sudden firing in the train. 

Both were on duty in the train going from Jaipur to Mumbai, ASI Tikaram was escort in-charge and Chetan was posted on escort duty. On Monday morning around 5:15 am, the constable had a fight with the ASI over some issue. After the argument, the angry constable fired from the service gun.

According to the information, the accused constable Chetan was transferred from Gujarat to Mumbai Central. He was angry about the transfer. He was mentally disturbed due to problems in the family.
