Jaipur couple injured in terrorist attack on tourist camp

Jaipur couple wounded in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir at a tourist campsite. A former BJP sarpanch was also shot dead in another attack the same day.

In a horrific incident, a terrorist attack injured a Jaipur couple visiting Kashmir. The tourists, from Rajasthan, were staying at an open camp near Pahalgam in south Kashmir when they were fired upon. This attack occurred in the Yanner area of Pahalgam, which is a popular tourist destination.

As per the sources, Tabrez and his wife Farha from the Rajasthan city were attacked in Yannar near Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. They were left critically injured after being shot at 10:15 pm at a tourist campsite. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment  

This is the third terrorist attack on non-natives in J&K this election season. Two separate terrorist attacks happened in J&K on Saturday evening. Security forces have launched manhunts at both attack sites. 

Apart from this young tourist couple from Jaipur, a former BJP sarpanch was also shot dead at Heerpora in Shopian district. The terrorists gunned down former sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh. Aijaz Ahmad, Sarpanch described himself as a former stone pelter who appreciated PM Narendra Modi, for his transformation, several times in viral videos.

In the weeks leading up to May, two non-locals were targeted in Jammu and Kashmir. In mid-April, a food vendor from Bihar was shot and killed in Anantnag. Earlier that month, a taxi driver from New Delhi was injured by gunfire in Shopian while on a tourist route. These terrorist attacks were marking attempts to vandalize Lok Sabha elections in the Union territory. 

Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency is set to go to the polls on May 25, with Mehbooba Mufti competing against Mian Altaf Ahmad of the National Conference and Zaffar Mansh of the Apni Party in a three-cornered contest. The polls were originally planned for May 7.
