With the aim of enhancing regional connectivity and decreasing passenger load on major railway stations in the state, 21 railway stations are being upgraded in Rajasthan. Facilities like increased number of platforms, stoppages of trains, connecting the platforms of the stations with foot over bridges will be done as part of the project.

A total of 24 smaller stations are being redeveloped in the north-western railway (NWR) region, of which 21 are in Rajasthan which include stations like Sanganer, Beawar, Dausa, Khairthal, Rajgarh, Ajmer, Pali Marwar among other stations.

According to the General manager of NWR, “Stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat scheme, which will enable railways to give better facilities to passengers. With the redevelopment of stations, stoppages of trains can be increased in smaller railway stations. The stations will be given a heritage look and commercial space will be given to small vendors at the stations which will generate employment for the region too.”

As per the officials, “the redevelopment work of the three stations is likely to be completed by the financial year 2024-25 and all of them will be completed by 2025-26. On February 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the redevelopment work of these stations along with construction of 105 railway over bridges and flyovers in the north western railway.”

“The aim of the redevelopment project is not just making the stations look better, but to develop them as city centers, where the economy of that area can also grow and residents can come and spend time as shops, commercial kiosks will be set up. In Jaipur, Sanganer station is being redeveloped on a large scale which will have four platforms after the work is complete,” said Captain Shashi Kiran, chief public relations officer of NWR.

At Sanganer railway station, a new building will be constructed along with a waiting room, retiring room, dormitory, concourse plaza with lift and escalator, office buildings, and disaster management rooms, among other facilities. At Dausa railway station, a ladies waiting room, lighting system, public information system, and mixed waiting room will be constructed.

At Ajmer station, which will be developed in different phases, the new buildings being built will have green buildings with disabled friendly facilities, unreserved waiting rooms, and AC waiting rooms, among others.
