Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar witnessed unrest following the vandalism of a statue of Veer Tejaji Maharaj at a temple on Tonk Road. The incident, which occurred late Friday night, sparked outrage among locals and religious groups. Demonstrators blocked roads, shut down markets, and burned tyres in protest, demanding immediate action against the culprits.
Police responded swiftly, deploying additional forces to maintain order and detaining 12 individuals for interrogation. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejaswini Gautam confirmed that an FIR has been registered, and multiple teams are working to identify those responsible.
The vandalism has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot described the act as “highly deplorable” and called for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal also urged authorities to take strict legal action against the perpetrators.
Veer Tejaji Maharaj, a revered folk deity and warrior from Rajasthan, is celebrated for his bravery and sacrifice. His temples are significant cultural landmarks, and the desecration of his statue has deeply hurt public sentiments.
The situation remains tense but under control, with police assuring prompt action to address the community’s concerns.
