It was a momentous occasion for Jaipurites on February 5 as Jaipur received the World Heritage City Jaipur certificate by UNESCO. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay handed over the certificate to UDH Minister Shanti Dhariwal at a function organized at Albert Hall.
Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, visited Jaipur before giving Heritage City a certificate. She visited Amber and Hawa Mahal. The colorful cultural evening was organized celebrating the Heritage city title. 70 folk artists performed for this honor by singing, playing and dancing symphony of Jaipur.
As soon as Shanti Dhariwal was given the World Heritage City certificate, Albert Hall was illuminated with colorful lights and Iktare’s melodious lacquer tune spread into the atmosphere. Kalabalia, Kathak, Lal Angi Ger, Chari, Bhavai dance were performed by eminent artists. The program ended with the presentation of Tarana in Raag Bhupali by tabla player Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan.
Audrey looked quite enchanted by the beauty of Jaipur. Not only the architecture of the place but the dance and singing were also admired. Audrey Azoulay, who arrived in Jaipur, was overwhelmed by the inner beauty of Jaipur. She first saw the Amer Mahal, after that she visited the Hawa Mahal and the boundary wall. Audrey liked the architecture of Jaipur a lot, as well as puppet dance in Hawa mahal.
She said that Jaipur is a prestigious city due to its heritage and holds a special place in the world. It is an honor and privilege for me to come here from Paris. UNESCO is very proud that the boundary wall of Jaipur has been included in the World Heritage List. The people of Jaipur have preserved their cultural heritage. The city really deserves the title of being a World Heritage City.
During this, Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh, Art and Culture Minister B.D.Kalla including several senior cabinet ministers, leaders and officials were also present.
Addressing the program, Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh said that Jaipur is one of the best-planned cities in the world. It is a matter of pride for us that the Director-General of UNESCO is in Jaipur. Jaipur is recognized as the most favored destination for tourists visiting India.
Minister of Arts, Literature and Culture, Dr. B. D. Kalla said that the inclusion of Jaipur in the UNESCO World Heritage List will give a further boost to the tourism of the state. He said that Rajasthan has an international recognition due to its colorful heritage of art and culture, our region is known for promoting tourism through art and culture.
While addressing the function, the Minister of Autonomous Governance and Urban Development, Shanti Dhariwal said that Pink City Jaipur is world-famous for its rich architecture, luxurious buildings, architecture, city planning, culture, and unmatched beauty. Jaipur was founded when city planning was an unknown subject all over the world, its wide streets, chaupads, queued shops in the queue, high ramparts reminds the then rulers and manufacturers of this city.
According to Vijaypal Singh, Commissioner of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, “They are very happy with Amber and Hawa Mahal tour. It is a matter of pride for Jaipur to get this title, but with it, the level of responsibility also has to be increased because now Jaipur is not just Pink City, but has become the World Heritage City.
