Jaipur International Airport has installed five Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines to assist travelers who might suffer sudden cardiac arrests. AED is a portable device that can be used to restore normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. These machines have been installed throughout the terminal building.
According to a senior airport official, “These AED machines have been strategically placed across the terminal building. They are important aids for delivering immediate assistance to restore normal heart rhythms during sudden cardiac arrest, which increases the survival rate.”
The AED machine has an automated voice guide that can be activated with a button press. Anyone, including non-medical personnel, can follow the instructions and use the device. In case of a sudden cardiac arrest, nearby individuals can use the AED and initiate CPR.
To improve efficiency, the airport staff underwent CPR training. This training aimed to equip them with the skills to administer immediate aid before professional medical help arrives. The primary goal was to ensure prompt response, enhance workplace safety, and impart valuable life skills.
As per Dr Aparna Pandey, a critical care consultant who organized the CPR session, “CPR is not just for the workplace but is a skill that can be used anywhere, anytime, making you a valuable resource in your community and at home. At the time of crises, these machines can act as life-savior agents. Considering the present situation, all commercial and non-commercial establishments should install these AEP in their premises, especially at public places.”
