The government of Rajasthan has announced a 3.75 crore vaccine to Serum Institute, announcing free vaccination to those aged 18 to 45 years. The government will bear the cost of purchasing the vaccines from manufacturing firms. The decision will help decrease the mortalities in the state.
For this, the government has to spend 3000 crores. They have already placed the orders. However, the Serum Institute has not yet confirmed how long it will take to supply the vaccine.
Medical Minister Raghu Sharma says Serum Institute has expressed concern about the completion of the commitment of supply to the Central Government by 15 May. They do not currently have a vaccine. As soon as the vaccine is available, the vaccinations of those above 18 will also start in Rajasthan. Medical department officials are in constant contact with the Serum Institute.
The Rajasthan government has claimed to have incurred an expenditure of 3000 crores for vaccination of 3.75 crore population of people aged 18 to 45 years. There is no surety if the vaccination of people above 18 years of age in Rajasthan will start from May 1. The vaccine is expected to be received only after May 15 from the Serum Institute. In such a situation, vaccination will start from May 1 only if the central government sends the vaccine.
There is currently no shortage of vaccines for those above 45 years of age in Rajasthan. The vaccine is being provided continuously from the center. There has been a vaccination of around 1.25 lakh people daily after the mini lockdown in the state.
