2020 Dussehra Celebrations in Jaipur

Festivals News

Ravan Dahan on Dussehra inspires nostalgia in all of us, especially when we watch huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhakarna burn. Dussehra is a festival that commemorates the win of good over evil. The time has arrived but this year in a fear of Covid outbreak, Dussehra celebrations in Jaipur will be symbolic rather than ceremonial.

The festival of Ramlila and Ravana Dahan has been happening since 1950. Thousands of visitors used to come every year, but for the first time in decades, the Dussehra ground will be seen deserted on the day of Dussehra. The government has implemented Section 144, and there is a ban on gathering.

However, keeping in view the religious sentiments of the people, the district administration has allowed the burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath on Dussehra with the advice of social distance maintenance. According to religious tradition, there will be a regular Ravana Dahan ritual in two places in the city. Ravan Dahan will be done in the presence of the artists who perform in the Ramlila, administrative officers and committee officials.

Dussehra Celebrations in Jaipur

This year, Dussehra celebrations in Jaipur will be a little formal as compared to every year. Unlike every year when the effigy of Ravana of about 45 feet was burnt on the Gandhi playing ground. This year the effigy of Ravana will be of 15 feet and Meghnath P Kumbhakarna of 10 feet each. Neither fireworks nor processions would be carried out. There will be no use of gunpowder.

According to the Collector, common citizens will not be allowed to participate in the program of Ravan Dahan. The adequate police force will be deployed on the ground to avoid any chaos. Ravan Dahan will be done under the supervision of city council administration.

The Ravan Dahan will be broadcast live on the city council’s social media platform. This is done so that there is no crowd at the venue. People can enjoy the tradition staying at home.

Dussehra’s major message is the renewal of life, hope and joy. This year, bring these aspects into the lives of your loved ones. Convey a message of optimism that Dussehra brings to the people of India every year.
