Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) heritage has now selected Jal Mahal as the new location for the night market in Jaipur. A trail will be conducted on 26 and 27 september at jal mahal. The decision was taken after the failed attempt to set up at Chaura Rasta due to the protest from the local traders.
The JMC officials have already started preparations for setting up a night market near Jal Mahal. In the night bazaar, around 200 shops will be set up during the trials. Different stalls for food, handicraft, entertainment will be set up to promote tourism in the city. The Night Bazaar will be from 7pm till 2am.
The final location will depend on the response received in the trail. After the trial, a tender process will be started to finalise the location and turn it into a weekly event.
According to a senior JMC officer, “A committee had been set up to decide the location for the night market after the plans to hold it at Chaura Rasta were cancelled. The committee Jalmahal ki Pal, Jaleb Chowk, Ramlila Maidan Newgate, Ram Niwas Bagh suitable for the night market.”
In view of the arrival of tourists and parking, preference was given to Jal Mahal over other locations. There is ample space for parking at Jal Mahal and it is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. However, Albert Hall was also considered among the choices for the night bazaar as it is not far away from the Walled City and has good tourist footfall.
In order to enable the tourists to enjoy night tourism, a night market was planned in collaboration with JMC, Heritage under the Smart City Project. Even before the night market started, local residents and traders started protesting against it. After this, the administration decided to change the location of Night Bazaar from Chaura Rasta to Jal Mahal.
