For the first time after 15 years, the mega event Jaipur Literature Festival will be held at Hotel Clarks Amer instead of Diggi Palace. Among the list of speakers, Historian Vikram Sampat, who wrote a book on Savarkar, will be the center of attraction.
For the first time after the pandemic, the form of JLF has been completely changed. Last year a virtual event was organized instead of an on-ground event. This year the feat will be a 10-day event that will be organised in a hybrid way. The on-field event will start from January 28 to February 1 and virtually from January 28 to 6 February.
The reason behind the changed venue
For the last 15 years, the Jaipur Literature Festival has been organized at the Diggi Palace in the city, but this time the JLF will be organized at Hotel Clarks Amer. The reason behind the change of venue is the dispute regarding the location of Diggi Palace.
Many problems have been the cause of this controversy, including the rail map of vehicles on Tonk Road, problems in movement, problems for patients coming to nearby hospitals-labs including SMS Hospital. The venue was not changed for a long time as this is a high profile event. Last time there was special pressure on the administration, so this time the organizers have changed the venue.
250 speakers will be included
The first list of speakers has been released. The festival will be attended by 250 speakers including Indian poet and writer Arundhati Subramaniam, surgeon and writer Dr. Ambareesh Satwik, art historian B.N. Goswami, Portuguese politician Bruno Marquez, zoologist and Viking-era expert Dr. Kat German, 2021 Booker Prize winner Damon Gelgut for the novel ‘The Promise’, Australian author DBC Pierre, Indian-origin British author Farrukh Dondi among others. At the same time, National Book Award winner Jonathan Franz, writer Kunal Basu, writers Shivani Sibal, Tripuradaman Singh and Mukulika Banerjee, politician Dr. Shashi Tharoor, historian and writer Vikram Sampath are also included in the list.
According to Namita Gokhale, Co-Director, Jaipur Literature Festival, “Along with the return of JLF’s on-ground festival, a unique virtual version will also be organized. We are ready to wholeheartedly welcome literature lovers and friends associated with literature. Taking forward the excitement and buzz of the on-ground festival, we will take this experience through digital to exceed the limits of time and borders.”
Along with the festival, the ninth edition of its B2B unit, Jaipur Bookmark (JBM), will also be launched. As usual, publishers, literary agents, authors, translators, translation agencies and booksellers from around the world will participate in JBM, where they will have the opportunity to interact and understand the prospects of publishing.
