The SMS Medical College authority has formed an anti-ragging committee and set up anti-ragging teams to keep a check on ragging activities.
Ragging takes place with junior students at the start of the academic year. Given this, the senior students have also been sent on leave from Nov 15 to Nov 30 so that they don’t harass the junior students who just enrolled in the college.
According to the Principal and Controller of SMS College, “We have constituted anti-ragging teams which comprise college faculty members, hostel wardens, assistant legal counsellors, psychologists, physical teachers, administrative officers, police, NGOs and media correspondents.”
In addition to this, a Grievance Redressal Committee has been made up to control ragging. Also, the district and police authority has been asked to increase police patrolling in and around the campus of the college and hospital.
Along with this, a helpline number has also been set up where students can call in case there is a complaint of ragging.
The toll-free number of college is 1800-180-6020 or the toll free number of UGC is 1800-180-5522
Students can also send an email to [email protected] and [email protected].
As per a college administrator, “Strict action will be taken against senior students found involved in ragging. The newly enrolled students have arrived. We have seen that the ragging activities take place at the start of the academic year, so the senior students have been sent on leave for 15 days.”
