To clear the confusion about the date of celebrating Deepawali, scholars from all over the country gathered in Jaipur and decided unanimously that Deepawali will be celebrated on October 31. On Tuesday, a special religious meeting was organized on the topic of ‘Deepawali Nirnay’ in the auditorium of the Central Sanskrit University of Jaipur.
However, in the Bhojraj Panchang of the Bhopal centre of the same university, the date of Diwali is November 1. Due to this, the confusion regarding the date of Diwali puja has increased further.
According to the Dharm Sabha held on Tuesday, on 31st October, Amavasya will remain in the entire Pradosh period (2 hours 24 minutes after sunset). Along with this, the Darsh part of Amavasya is also received on this day, so celebrating Diwali on 31st October in the entire country is in accordance with the scriptures. Some countries may have different arrangements. In Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Amavasya will come on 1st November in the Pradosh period. In India and all the western countries, Diwali will be celebrated on 31st October only.
The president of the Dharm Sabha, Maharaj Acharya Sanskrit College, Jaipur’s former Astrology Department Head Prof. Rampal Shastri said- Those who had disputes regarding celebrating Diwali, have now completely agreed that Deepawali will be celebrated on October 31. About 100 eminent astrologers, religious scholars and Sanskrit scholars of the country participated in the Dharm Sabha.
The Dharm Sabha gave these arguments for October 31
- There is Amavasya on the entire night of 31 October. It is necessary to get the date in Karmakaal (Punya Kaal), which is on 31 October.
- Karma Kaal or Pradosh Vyapini Amavasya is not available on 1st November. The full benefits of Lakshmi Pujan will not be achieved on this day.
- Almanacs that follow NASA’s calculations have been confused.
Surya Siddhanta never created any confusion
Prof. Arknath Chaudhary, former Vice Chancellor of Somnath Sanskrit University, Gujarat said- In our country, the date of the festival is decided by the religious scholars on the basis of Surya Siddhanta. According to that, there has never been any confusion. This time also there was no confusion about Diwali. The controversy on this has been created by the Panchangs prepared on the basis of Drik Ganit (a traditional method of doing astronomical calculations). The Panchangs which follow NASA’s calculations have created confusion..
According to the major calendars of Rajasthan, Diwali is on 1st November
There is a difference of opinion about the holiday in the government calendar and the festival in the Hindu calendar regarding Deepawali, due to which a state of confusion has been created. Because astrologers are not unanimous on this issue.
The reason is that in the almanacs which have already been printed, on the basis of government holiday, Diwali has been declared on 31st October, whereas those which are in consonance with the famous astrology of Jaipur, on the basis of the new moon falling on the Udayat date, Diwali is being declared on 1st November.
Scholars argue that on Friday Udayat Tithi, there will be Amavasya on November 1 and Pradosh Kaal will also be there. Therefore, worshiping Goddess Lakshmi on this day is most fruitful.
Astrologers say that if there is Amavasya for two days during Pradosh Kaal and Amavasya from sunrise to evening on the second day, then celebrating the festival of Deepotsav and worshiping Lakshmi on 1st November is considered in consonance with the scriptures.
At the same time, the leading astrologers and calendar makers of Jaipur were not invited to the religious assembly held on Tuesday, which also led to much discussion.
