Health alert issued for Mumps virus

Mumps virus infecting children and elders, spread through coughing and sneezing, fever, swelling below the ear and hearing ability is also decreasing.

Now not only children but also adults are getting infected with the mumps virus. Due to infection with this virus, the victim is suffering from high fever, swelling below the ear and severe pain. In many cases, hearing ability has also been reduced. The victims are not able to even chew bread properly and eat it.

Mumps are also called gillfed. Mumps cases have increased rapidly in this season favorable for the virus. Currently SMS Hospital alone has reported more than 15 cases in February. Whereas in the country, cases have been seen only in Maharashtra, UP, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. In this regard, a health alert has already been issued by the Central Government for all the states. 

This virus spreads to each other through coughing or sneezing. Earlier this disease was seen only in children but now it is also spreading in elders. Even the medicines have no effect even after a day or two.

What is Mumps: It is a viral disease caused by Paramyxovirus of the Rubella virus family. The parotid glands on both sides of the face become swollen, causing saliva to be produced. Due to swelling, hearing also becomes impaired. It infects other organs along with the salivary gland.

How it spreads: The virus spreads in the air when infected people cough or sneeze. By coming in contact with them, this infectious disease spreads to others also. Even a healthy person can become sick due to direct contact with infected people like water bottles and other things.

These symptoms are: chills, high fever, cough, swelling around the throat and ears, loss of appetite and stomach pain.
