Biparjoy effect will start in Rajasthan from today, warning issued

The effect of Cyclone Biparjoy will be seen today in Rajasthan, Warning of heavy rain in 24 hours, Barmer-Jalore areas will be evacuated.

The effect of Cyclone Biparjoy formed in the Arabian Sea will start appearing in Rajasthan this evening. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains will start on June 16 and 17. The maximum impact will be seen in the Jodhpur division. 

On Wednesday evening in the Secretariat, the Chief Secretary held a meeting with all the collectors of the state and reviewed the preparations. The administration is on alert given the warning of heavy to very heavy rain (200MM or more). For relief and rescue, 9 companies of SDRF, and NDRF have been deployed in different districts.

Apart from this, instructions have been given to evacuate people from low-lying waterlogged areas to safer places in the Barmer-Jalore district, where there is an alert for heavy rains. The government has also banned inflation relief camps along with adventure activities and tourist trips for three days (June 16 to 18) in the alerted districts. MNREGA workers in Jaisalmer have also been ordered to be on leave on June 16 and 17. 

Will hit the coast of Gujarat today

Cyclone Biparjoy is currently in the Arabian Sea and by Thursday evening it will hit Gujarat’s Jakhau Port, which is between Gujarat’s Mandvi Port and Pakistan’s Karachi Port.

After this cyclone hits the Gujarat coast, its effect will be visible in the southwestern part of Rajasthan. By the afternoon of June 16, this cyclone will enter Rajasthan in the form of a depression, which will end up turning into a low-pressure area by the time it approaches Jodhpur by June 17.

Red alert for these districts

The Meteorological Center Jaipur has issued a red alert for June 16-17 for these districts, anticipating very heavy rains in Jalore, Barmer, Pali, Jodhpur and Nagaur districts. There is also a possibility of a storm with a speed of up to 70 km. An alert has been issued in the district and people have been instructed not to leave the house without work.

Under this prediction of the Meteorological Department, there may be 200MM or more rain in some areas. Given this warning, the administration has asked to start flood control rooms in each of these districts from tomorrow and make adequate arrangements for civil defense and other relief rescues there.

Alert issued in these districts 

Red alert on June 16 in Barmer, Jalore, 

Red alert on June 17 in Barmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Pali, Nagaur, Rajsamand 

Orange alert on June 18 in Nagaur, Jaipur, Tonk, Ajmer 

There are three types of alerts. 

Yellow Alert when there is an alert of heavy rain and it is expected to rain from 64 to 116MM. 

Orange Alert when there is also an alert of heavy rain and it is expected to rain from 117 to 204MM. 

Red Alert when an alert of very heavy rain is issued and during this time it is expected to rain more than 205MM.

Adventure tourism and inflation relief camp banned for three days

The government has decided to ban adventure tourism in Biparjoy-affected districts. Along with this, dearness relief camps will remain suspended in the affected areas in the event of a storm. This ban will remain from 16 to 18 June. 

The government has issued a warning for Barmer, Jalar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Pali, Nagaur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Rajsamand, Sirohi and Udaipur districts. Also, 8 companies of SDRF will remain deployed in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur-Bikaner. A company of NDRF has been deployed in Ajmer.
