First four-lane cable-stayed bridge to be built in Jaipur

JDA plans to build the first 1 km long four-lane steel cable bridge in Jaipur on JLN Marg; this move will give relief from traffic jams on JLN road.

Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) will soon come up with the city’s first cable-stayed bridge at OTS Junction on JLN Marg. The key arterial stretch will be signal-free and will get relief from traffic jams at the intersection.

OTS intersection on JLN road has the maximum traffic pressure due to which it is mostly jammed. It will now be made a signal-free junction. For this, JDA is preparing to build a four-lane steel cable-stayed overbridge here. This cable bridge will be about 600 meters to 1 kilometer long.

Along with this, JDA plans to construct two cloverleaf bridges near Jaldhara and OTS campus in the city. The total project cost for all the bridges has been estimated at Rs 150 crore.

Design work is going on for this. After finalising the design, tenders will be floated soon. There is a possibility that work may start in 2-3 months. The decision to erect the structure was taken due to a shortage of land on the stretch. This will be the first cable-stayed bridge within the city limits in the state.

This is the plan being made

A steel cable-stayed bridge will be built at the OTS intersection for traffic going from the Malviya Nagar railway overbridge to Gandhi Circle on JLN Marg.

Also, two cloverleaf bridges will be built at the OTS complex as there are a high number of trains which makes it a time being to cross the junction.

For this, a clover leaf will be made towards the OTS complex for the traffic passing from Bhaskar Pulia side towards Malviya Nagar Railway Overbridge. Another clover leaf will be built near Jaldhara for the traffic passing from the Information Commissioner’s office to JLN road towards the OTS culvert.

What is special about steel cable bridge

There will be no pillars under the culvert in the stayed bridge.

The large spans involved in this will be hooked through a cable stand built on two pillars. Due to this, the joints on this bridge will also be less than the normal overbridge or elevated road and there will be more open space under them.

The durability of this structure is also claimed to be higher than that of a regular bridge. A normal bridge wears out after 50-60 years and has to be dismantled, whereas the utility time of a cable bridge is 70-80 years.
