Tourists rejoiced, elephant ride resumed in Amer fort Jaipur

News

The Rajasthan government has allowed elephant rides inside the famous Amer Fort of Jaipur. The elephant ride, which was prohibited due to the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, has now resumed. The elephant ride began in Amer Fort on November 24 after eight months. The ban was enforced on March 18.

CM Ashok Gehlot has published orders in this concern on Monday night by the Department of Archeology and Museums. The elephant rides at Amer Fort for tourists will be organised in the morning between 8 AM and 11 AM. It was clearly stated that the elephant rides will begin only by obeying strict protocols related to the pandemic.

The mahouts have been given strict instructions to follow the Corona Guidelines. Under this, it is mandatory to put masks on mahouts and tourists during the elephant ride. After each round, the seating area on the elephant will be sanitized. Tourists will have their hands sanitized before and after the elephant ride. The thermal screening will also be done. The Amer administration will have to assure if all the rules are being followed appropriately.

The decision was taken to ensure the wellbeing of the mahouts, whose earnings entirely depends on elephant tourism. The decision has provided a huge relief to the elephant owners. The mahouts were seen cheerful after they were able to earn their livelihood. They were facing an economic crisis due to the unemployment from the last eight months.

They have decided to implement a self-imposed roster daily. According to a mahout, “There are a total of 100 elephants. As of now, we have decided to split them up into 50-50 batches. One batch of 50 elephants will go on the first day, the remaining will go the next day.”

The Hathi Gaon near Amer has been established in Jaipur to nurture and keep elephants and earn their livelihood. Elephant safari is one of the main attractions at the popular Amer Fort in Jaipur. These rides are considered one of the best ways to tour and explore the fort.
