Rajasthan’s Mame Khan first Indian folk artist to debut at the Cannes festival

Rajasthan’s musical maestro, Mame Khan became the first Indian folk artist to walk the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes, which attracts every eye with its glitz, glamour, impressively designed costumes and flashing red carpet, kick-started on Tuesday with a grand opening. It is an 11-day event concluding on May 28.

Amidst the fame of Hollywood and world cinema, a man of Rajasthan made an exceptional debut at Cannes. He became the first Indian folk artist to walk the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. The man is a popular name in Rajasthan, the talent of the music world, the Mame Khan!

Mame Khan, fondly known as the ‘Folk voice of India’, has now been India’s as well as the world’s new favorite! He got fame for his Coke Studio song ‘Chaudhary’. Other popular creations of Mame Khan are Baanwre from Luck by Chance, Aitbaar from No one killed Jessica, and Chakora in Mirzya.

Outfitted in a lively pink kurta set, with an embellished navy-blue jacket and sporting the traditional Rajasthani turban, Mame flaunted a complete glimpse of Rajasthan in his outfit. 

Musical maestro, Mame hails from a simple village of Satto in the Jaisalmer district. He belongs to the famous ‘Manganiyar Gharana of Rajasthan, which uses rare instruments like bowed kamaicha and khartal. The singer still holds on tightly to his roots, even as he scours new boundaries.

For years, Indian celebrities, influencers, and musicians have made a mark imposing Indian outfits, music and art forms on the world map at the esteemed film festival! This year, India has been titled as ‘Country of Honour’ at the Cannes 75th edition.

The 11-day event kick-started on Tuesday and will conclude on May 28. It started with a big opening starring Indian personalities like Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and AR Rahman, among many others.
