Patients at relief, Residents strike at SMS called off

All the resident doctors called off their three-day-long strike and resumed the work on Thursday after a meeting with the administrator of SMS medical college which concludes on ending the strike.

In a relief to the patients, a strike by Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, finally ended on Thursday noon. The strike on Tuesday was triggered when a lady resident on duty was beaten by the attendants of an 80-year-old patient. She was attacked for referring the patient to the SMS hospital from the Kanwantia Hospital due to serious health conditions.

Around 1500 residents of all government hospitals boycotted work and demanded proper security measures for the doctors and police action against the incident. Several patients at SMS hospital in Jaipur suffered due to the strike of resident doctors.

Officials tried to convince them and following a successful conversation between them the strike came to an end. Resident doctors called off the strike when few of their demands were met on Thursday.

The police have deployed efficacious security and six security personnel at the hospital. Protesters demanded to remove the head of the Kanwatia hospital from his post. On this demand “A special committee has been formed to investigate on the head of the Kanwantia hospital regarding the negligence towards the case. A proper investigation will be held into the conduct of the hospital and for the further action on the matter,” said the president of JARD.
