Records aplenty for Virat Kohli as he hit his 40th century against Australia in the 2nd ODI at Vidarbha cricket association stadium in Nagpur. Kohli scored 116 from 120 balls.
It was India’s 500th ODI victory. India’s first ODI win had come under captain S Venkataraghavan vs East Africa on July 11, 1975. India is the second team after Australia to reach the landmark in One Day International cricket and create history. Since playing their first ODI in 1974, India has played 963 matches. Out of these matches, 500 were victories, 414 were losses, while there was a tie in the rest of the nine matches. Australia leads the list with 558 wins.
Virat Kohli’s century helped Indian to score 250 runs in the second one-day international match against Australia. The Indian Captain was dismissed by Cummins for 116 and this is his 7 century against Australia.
Earlier, Kohli drew level with Sachin Tendulkar, becoming the second batsman to score 40 ODI hundreds. Earlier, Kohli overtook former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting’s record to become the fastest to score 9,000 international runs as a captain.
Australia got off to a strong start as bowlers looked to have control over the proceedings by striking at regular intervals. Opener Rohit Sharma got dismissed for zero in the first over. Whereas, another opener Shikhar Dhawan managed to score 21 runs. India’s number four batsman Ambati Rayudu was departed for mere 18 runs off 32 balls. Subsequently, India roared back and the Indian captain knocked out nine boundaries to reach the triple figure when India was 225 for six in 43.1 overs. Virat Kohli led the demur for the Indian team and lifted them to an admirable stance.
