Retired officer shot dead outside NHAI office in Jaipur

An NHAI officer was shot dead on Thursday in Jaipur's Vaishali Nagar, Two assailants were seen in CCTV footage.

A man working as a private consultant was murdered outside the NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) office located at Vaishali Nagar in Jaipur. CCTV footage recorded two shooters came in a car and fired at him on Thursday afternoon.

He had come from Gurugram to Jaipur to meet NHAI officials and attend the progress meeting of the highway. As he came out of the meeting, two youths arrived in a car, took out pistols and fired a bullet at him and ran away. The bullet hit him in the head, he was rushed to SMS Hospital in an injured condition, where he died. 

After receiving the information, Additional Commissioner Ajay Pal Lamba, DCP West Richa Tomar, DCP Crime Digant Anand, Crime Branch and Vaishali Police reached the spot and recovered the CCTV footage. 

An investigation based on CCTV

After the incident, Jaipur Police inspected the footage of more than 100 CCTVs of the area. A special team and crime branch have also been deployed to identify the accused. Both the assassins are expected to be professional shooters. The police are proceeding with the investigation considering it to be a case of mutual enmity.

As per DCP Crime Digat Anand, “Rajendra Chawla (63) was originally a resident of Sector-29, Faridabad, Haryana. He was currently working in a private consultancy firm of NHAI, living in Gurgaon. He came here with two more partners and reached Girnar Colony in Vaishali Nagar for a project meeting regarding highway construction. He came out after the meeting was over after an hour. Two miscreants who came from the car shot a bullet at him that went into the head near the ear. On hearing the firing sound, the workers came out and found Rajendra bleeding. They took him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

He also attended previous meetings

Rajendra Chawla had attended three meetings earlier in Jaipur. He had retired from NHAI. Recently, he was working as a consultant on the Jaipur-Gurugram highway project and came here for the progress report of the project. 44 bridges are to be constructed on the highway for 35 crores.
