Rajasthan government waives off the school fees

Relief for Parents: Rajasthan government waived off the School fees

News

The government has finally released the rules depending on which the schools will be charging the fees. The news came as a big relief during the ongoing pandemic.

The Rajasthan government has requested the CBSE and RBSE affiliated schools to waive off their tuition fees. The private schools are asked to reduce their fees by 30% for grade 9 to 12. While, the schools affiliated with the state board are asked to cut up their fees by 40%, for the same grades.

According to the guidelines issued, Schools can charge fees only after concluding the syllabus part which has been reduced for the year. Hence, schools can charge only 60-70% of the fees.

The state government has formed a committee to decide on the fees issue. This is due to the ‘No School, No fee’ campaign run by the parents. The committee was formed under the Rajasthan Schools (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2016.

As per the order issued on Wednesday by the Education Department, “The CBSE has reduced the syllabus of the school by 30% for classes 9 to 12, thus their fees should also be reduced by 30%. Similarly, the state Board has reduced the syllabus by 40%, so they should cut off the fee by 40%.

However, the Progressive Association School of Rajasthan is not in support of this decision. They earlier filed a plea against the high court decision ordering school fee deduction. They expressed their disagreement by saying, “This judgment is not right, it is biased. If it is executed, we will have to go against it to the Supreme Court. If the fees are waived off, how will the school pay salaries to their staff?”

Guidelines issued

The guidelines state that the school will not increase the fees this academic session. Schools will give a recipt the parents mentioning the total fees and the one after reduction. Any parent unable to pay fees due to economic reasons can be given relaxation.

The school fees waived off here only refers to the fees for the syllabus covered by the schools through online classes. The fees charged for sports, boarding, library, laboratory, development charges will not be applicable this academic session as these facilities have not been provided. This decision is applicable for students of classes IX to XII.

The order further says that psrents can pay the school fees in monthly installments. If any student do not prefers to continue with online classes, they will be taught as per the syllabus decided by the board in offline mode.

Apart from this, the lessening of the syllabus for classes I to VIII has not been decided yet. Hence, the decision for their fees will be taken after the state government issues orders for the same.
