After 48 years, Jyoti Khandelwal will be fielding from Jaipur and is the first woman candidate by the Congress. Congress has finally made Jyoti Khandelwal, the former mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation and women’s leader, as the Lok Sabha candidate.

Khandelwal reached Jaipur from Delhi on Thursday night. Her relatives and supporters congratulated her for making it to the list. She will be fighting against the BJP Ramcharan Bohra.

About 48 years ago, Gayatri Devi appeared in the last election on the Independent Party ticket and won it as well. Earlier, Khandelwal has defeated BJP candidate Suman Sharma in the direct election of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation Mayor. Jyoti Khandelwal had also issued a ticket from Kishanpole in the last assembly elections but didn’t receive the ticket.

Out of total 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, the Congress finalized the names for 19 candidates, releasing its first list of candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019 on Thursday. The remaining six names will be announced soon, said party officials.

Polling in Rajasthan for phase 4 and Phase 5 will be held on April 29 and May 6 respectively following the result announcement on May 23.
