News

NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) is intending to commence a premium hydrogen fuel bus service on the Delhi to Jaipur route. This is going to be the first FCEV bus service in India to be used for intercity travel.

NTPC is India’s largest energy cooperation looking forward to commencing hydrogen fuel bus service on the Delhi to Jaipur route. However, no timeline has been given for when the service will be started. Earlier, similar bus services were tested in metro cities like Mumbai.

The Indian government as well as automobile makers are concentrating on Green mobility. The government is also scheming more choices for alternative fuels to lessen dependence on traditional fuels. After publicizing  Electric Vehicles, the government is now also performing a feasibility study on hydrogen fuel buses. It will be the first FCEV bus service in India to be utilized for intercity travel.

The new service is going to be a pilot project to assess the viability of fuel cell buses for intercity travel. This will enable analysing the affordability of fuel cell buses against the traditional ICE bus service.

At the launch of the ‘Go Electric’ campaign in Delhi, RK Singh said, “We are planning to start premium hydrogen fuel bus service from Delhi to Jaipur and gradually we’ll also try experimenting running electric bus on the same route.”

The central government is also aiming to provide 40,000 battery-powered buses in Maharashtra for an intercity commute. As prices of petrol and diesel skyrocket in the country, dependency on crude oil will reduce with this transition towards alternative fuels.
