Communal tension and clashes erupted after stone-pelting on a Dussehra procession. Curfew was imposed and internet services were shut down in Rajasthan. The incident happened in Malpura town of Tonk district on Wednesday morning.
According to the reports, some unidentified miscreants pelted stones on the procession taken out on Vijayadashami. A sudden stone-pelting caused panic among those involved in the procession triggering tension in the town. The locals were agitated and refused to burn the effigy of Ravana, sat on a stage in front of the Malpura police station, demanding the arrest of the stone-pelters.
District administration burnt, the effigy at 4 am on Wednesday. The situation continued to be worsen. After sensing the state of tension, curfew was enforced. The internet was shut down at 5 am to restore law and order. The protesters were vigorously chased away.
Two people have been arrested in the stone pelting case. SP Adarsh Sidhu visited various areas of the town on Thursday and reviewed the situation. However, the situation is under control now, but the tour of officials and monitoring the situation still continues.
Divisional Commissioner Hanuman Meena, IG Sanjeev Narjari, Collector KK Sharma, SP Adarsh Sidhu and many officials, including the Chief Minister, were watching the situation throughout the day.
Due to the curfew, the buses are diverted from other routes. Also, The distribution of newspapers could not be done on Wednesday.
