The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has developed an executive lounge at the Jaipur railway station with interiors and facilities similar to the airport standards.

According to the IRCTC officials, the aim is to provide a better waiting experience for the passengers at railway stations and to attract tourists in Jaipur. The development is like that at airports with all the premium and luxury facilities. The redevelopment process is going on from the few past months at several railway stations.
The lounge has all the modern facilities such as stylish and comfortable couches and recliners, classy kitchen and eating space with a dining table. It also includes improved lifts and escalators, redesigned waiting rooms, concourse halls, and renovated platforms. The lighting and illumination are also beautified with the installation of energy efficient LED lights, added officials.

The North Western Railways (NWR) published a press release in which the Railway Board directed that 35 stations, including Jaipur station, have to be upgraded till February 28, 2019. However, The NWR gave the Jaipur station, a makeover like airports earlier in January, much before the deadline. The railway board also selected Ajmer station along with Jaipur for redevelopment from North Western Railway.

In Western India, Ahmedabad is the first city to have a five-star executive lounge at its railway station.

According to the officials, the redevelopment is done under station redevelopment programme by Indian Railway worth Rs. 1 lakh crore. Eleven stations under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have been upgraded to standards that match airport interiors.
