48 electric buses to run on Jaipur Delhi route

News

Good news for passengers commuting from Jaipur to Delhi. The state transport department is soon to introduce 48 electric buses to run on the Jaipur-Delhi route. The vehicles will have Bikaner House in Delhi as its last stoppage.

The buses will be operational in the coming week. The Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) will introduce these E-buses in Jaipur. These buses will run from Central bus stand in Jaipur to Bikaner House in Delhi.

The bus will save on fuel as these will cause no pollution. These E-buses will be fitted with two batteries. Each bus with a fully-charged battery will be able to for approximately 200 km. On the routes, the batteries could be charged with the help of the battery chargers set up in the depot.

The trail of about 30 kilometres in an electric bus was held last year. The transport minister will resume the launch this year. A meeting will be held on Monday to decide the midway routes across the state.

According to the transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas, “A meeting with RTDC officials will be held to ensure that the buses stop at Behror midway. Also, the steps will be taken to curb corruption in the department so that passengers get the best facilities possible.”

As per the officials, 50 electric buses have been validated by the Centre’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, or FAME 2 scheme. Rajasthan, however, will not be buying these vehicles but will be issuing the tenders soon to get them on a rental basis.

The department is struggling with the inadequacy of drivers and thus will employ 500 drivers in addition to the existing 410 drivers. There are also plans to start buses on the routes in rural areas where there are no buses at present. Permits will also be issued for these routes.
