On Friday, the District Collector Antar Singh Nehra handed over the certificate of citizenship of India to 18 Pakistan-displaced living in Jaipur for a long time. On receiving the citizenship of India, the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ echoed in the District Collectorate. This certificate is given under the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955.

Geeta and her three younger brothers Raja, Sonu and Amar are among them. They live in Malviya Nagar. In 2015, they all came to India with their families. From then on, they were hoping to get citizenship. It took 15 years to fulfil their expectations.

On receiving the citizenship, the pain of the eldest sister Geeta came out. Tears spilt out from her eyes. Geeta said that the citizenship of Pakistan was becoming a barrier between their dreams, now our dreams will be fulfilled.

She further expressed herself, “Despite being a Hindu in Pakistan our mother had to go to the market wearing a burqa. Things were a bit difficult for us. We couldn’t see the future of me and my three younger brothers. In such a situation, my parents brought us, four siblings, to India. We then arrived in Rajasthan and shifted to Jaipur in 2005. We were labelled as Pakistani. To live in such a situation was very troublesome in the beginning.”

On this occasion, the displaced families rejoiced in happiness and said that the process of granting Indian citizenship to the Pakistani displaced living in the state should be accelerated.

It is noteworthy that in addition to Jaipur in the state, a large number of Pak displaced people live in Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer.
