Masala Chowk gets contempt notice from the Rajasthan high court

Earlier in April 1994, the court had ordered a ban on any commercial activities on this land of Ram Niwas Bagh. In 2010 the food court constructed on the park premises was removed as per petitioner. Now Masala Chowk Jaipur is built within the premises of Ram Niwas Bagh.


On Tuesday, Rajasthan High Court, issued a contempt notice to the authorities, Chief Secretary, PWD Secretary, Jaipur Development Commissioner, Jaipur Municipal Commissioner, Principal Secretary of tourism, UDH, and Arts and Culture on noncompliance of the court order and construction of food court- Masala Chowk Jaipur at Ram Niwas Bagh in Jaipur. The bench of chief Justice Pradeep Nadrajog and G R Moolchandani issued a notice on a petition by Ashwini Tiwari


In a reply to the contempt, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials said that the food court, Masala Chowk was developed only after the orders from the court in 1993. The order directed to preserve the popular Ram Niwas garden including regulation of traffic through the park. Keeping in view the popularity of the place, the food court was developed. The Garden Act also stated that the park can comprise small shops.
