Smriti Van in Jaipur is an extended area of Jhalana wildlife park. Situated in the heart of Jaipur on JLN Marg, Kapoor Chandra Kulish Smriti Van is spread over an approximate 108 acres of area. Nestled amidst densely forested hillocks, it is a popular place for locals to enjoy nature. Not only the couple being the calmest and natural place it attracts a lot of morning walkers and families too. It has been captivating everyone with its azure water bodies, walking tracks, and gardens.

This is one of the most blissful places to visit in Jaipur, especially in the morning hours.  During morning hours this place is divine to walk around to get close to nature’s souvenir. History of Kulish Smriti Van in Jaipur

Its history dates back to the year 1981 when the whole area was gushed over by floods and valleys were formed. This area was then flourished as a memoir by planting trees. The former Chief Secretary of Rajasthan and Vedic Scholar Sh. Kapoor Chand Kulish then transformed this place. Thus, it is named after him, Kulish Smriti Van.

Later, the Rajasthan Government took possession and got this land developed as a biodiversity forest under the green Rajasthan campaign. In 2005, on Oct 8, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mrs. Vasundra Raje Seindhia laid the foundation of the Park. It was financed jointly by Rajasthan Patrika and JDA. The Kulish Smiriti Van in Jaipur was so far known only for birds, insects, and reptiles. Soon after its foundation, the restricted forest area was dedicated to the public on Dec 2007.

Vasundhra Van

This Van is a center of attraction in the Smriti Van. Many natural pathways have been constructed in the valleys of this area to seize the soil erosion. This is done by planting species of flora on the sideways of footpath without damaging the existing natural vegetation. Besides small lawns have also been laid to provide space to the natural environment.

Vrindavan Van

This area consists of a proper drainage system and regulated movement of water. Stabilization of slopes is done by spreading the nets all over and seeding aromatic plants on them. ‘Mogra‘, ‘Juhi and Rat Rani plants have been planted to get rid of the foul smell from the ravines.

Maru Van

This area consists of plants that are found in the deserted area. There are 64 different types of Xerophytes plants like Cactus, Agave, Euphorbia, and Succulent plants are found here.

Aravali Van

This Van consists of various species of plants found in the Aravali hill range that are known to have medicinal and Ayurvedic importance. Countless efforts have been made in order to sow plants like Dhak, Dhavada, Saalar, Gurjan, Hawan, Rohida, Khejri, Gugal, Gangan Saalar, etc.

Rashtriya Van

A variety of plantations can be spotted here like Almanda, Bougainvillea, Sada Bahar, Semal, shisham, Tibubua species, Ficus Ali, Gambhari, Rosewood, Kachnar, Sita Ashok, SInduri, etc.

Champa Van

Champa Van is dedicated to what its name signifies, flowers. There are 108 varieties of Champa Plants in this Van having different colors and fragrances.

Kusum Van

The unique thing about this Van is that plants from all over the country can be found here. There are about 68 varieties of plants with different colors, shape and size are worth seeing and are a treat to the eyes.

Dhanvantari Van

This is the largest section of Smriti Van, spread over 40 acres of land. It includes 225 types of herbal medicinal trees and plants. Herbal plants like Amla, Neem, Tulsi, Mehndi, Bhringraj, Bel, Kathal, Sandalwood, Kachnar, Rudraksha, Jamun, Sita Ashok, Guggal, Giloe, Akarkara, Gokhru, Ghritkumari, Ashwagandha, Sarpagandha, etc. are planted here.

A five feet reservoir is made for storing water that comes from Jawahar Nagar to the eastern part of the Smriti Van. To enhance the look nine ponds have been established. Lotus, Ducks, and fishes are placed in these ponds. To exemplify this van several immigrant birds visit this place during winters.

Nursery

There is a hi-tech nursery developed here to preserve the variety and quality of plants and to keep good care of plants.

Museum

The museum is divided into four halls where you can find different photographs of birds and flowers which are found in the ‘Smriti Van’. The photographs and information displayed here guide visitors about birds and flowers. One of the halls allows visitors to watch films on nature & wildlife.

Smriti Van Timings

The Smriti Van timings for visitors starts from 5:00 AM in the morning and closes at 6:00 PM. You will need around 2 to 3 hours to completely explore this place.

The entry is free only if you have your ID card with you. Don’t forget to carry your identity card to visit this place because the entry of visitors prohibited without any identity proof. Photography and Videography are also allowed here without any charges. 

How to Reach ?

This place is well connected with the city. You can easily reach here via local buses, Ola/Uber or your personal vehicles. Parking is available if you go by your personal vehicle.

It is about 6 km far from Sindhi Camp Bus Stand, 8  from the Jaipur Railway Station and just 5 km away from the Jaipur International Airport.
