Khau Galiyaan will be built in Jaipur to relish traditional street food

Khau Gali to be built in Jaipur under Health's 'unique initiative' where you will get the taste of pure, hygienic and healthy traditional dishes.

Khau Gali or ‘Food Street’ will be built in 100 districts of the country including Jaipur. It is a ‘unique initiative’ of health where the public will get the taste of pure, hygienic and healthy traditional dishes of the country. 

These traditional food streets will be developed under ‘Sahi Khao Abhiyan’. Along with the food streets, major food and drink places, roads and areas will also be built as examples. 

To provide pure and hygienic traditional food, clean food streets will be made in 100 districts of the country including Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur under the pilot project. For this, a financial amount of one crore rupees will be given to each district. Certificates have been received at 5 places in Jaipur and the process is going on in other districts as well.

The Ministry of Health will implement the scheme across the country in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Cooperation of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council as well as the Medical Department will be taken through the National Health Mission. Letters are being written to states across the country including Rajasthan to implement the scheme.

This is how the food street will be formed

At first, the major places of famous food and drink will be chosen with the help of the vendors association. After the selection, training will be given. During the inspection by the officers of the Food Safety Department, if found correct on the parameters, the certificate of Food Street will be given, which will be mandatory to be put outside.

Parameters of selection of food street 

Food streets will be given certification on the basis of clean space, trained and healthy staff, clean toilets, clean water and seating facilities. The quality of the food made is mandatory to be checked from time to time. Workers will have to wear gloves and caps. The same oil will not be used again and again. Pasting of oil change report. The date of keeping the food items in the refrigerator will have to be written.

Residents and tourists will get to taste traditional street food 

Street food is an integral part of Indian society, it is present in different states in the country. In Jaipur, Masala Chowk at Albert Hall, Mansarovar and Pratap Nagar Chowpatty, Gaurav Tower and Jaipur Railway Station have been certified Clean Street Food Hubs.

According to the Food and Drugs Safety Commissioner Pukhraj Sain, “tourists coming from the Central Government’s Food Street pilot scheme will get pure and clean food and drink items. This will also increase employment and the graph of the number of tourists. Traditional things of the region will be easy to find.” 

Food street will be built in many districts of the state

  • Four food streets each in Rajasthan (Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur), Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu , UP, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. 
  • Three food streets each in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir. 
  • Two food streets will be made in Goa. 
  • One food street each will be opened in Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Puducherry, and Sikkim.
