After getting positive response in Indore, Jaipur will also get cloth vending machines installed at its major markets and mandis. JMC Heritage has now decided to install cloth vending machines in Jaipur to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags. Customers will be able to get a cloth bag by putting in a coin of Rs 5 in the machine.

According to the officials of JMC-Heritage, “As of now five such machines are being installed in areas for a trail under the jurisdiction of JMC-Heritage. Depending on the response from the public, more machines will be installed in future. The corporation is planning to install up to 20 such machines in areas. This initiative will benefit both Swachh Survekshan as well as an alternative for those who use banned polythene.”

“As a pilot project we will be installing five cloth bag vending machines, one in the head office and the other four in the different zones of the corporation. We have been continuously working to reduce use of plastic bags in market places and now cloth bags will work as an alternative to plastic bags.” added the official.

The work of installing machines will complete over the next two weeks and people will get to avail the service by the first week of March. Similar machines will also be installed at markets which come under JMC Greater. Probably, a total of 10 such machines will be installed in the JMC Greater area.

The municipal corporation has been taking regular action against use of single use plastic in markets and seizing plastic on a daily basis. Surprise inspections have been conducted regularly in marketplaces. This has helped in reducing the use of polythene bags which are banned.
