About Birla Auditorium Jaipur

The auditorium is a blend of contemporary style of architecture with fusion of Rajasthani elements into it. Spread out across a very massive area spanning 9.8 acres of land the auditorium complex comprises a science museum, a library,  a computer centre, eight research divisions, an information and broadcasting cell, a planetarium and an auditorium. The auditorium and convention centre is a one-stop place for events and for those who would want to gain knowledge of their respective subjects.

The audiovisual shows at the auditorium are mainly arranged and projected using computerized projection systems same as GM II projector along with some of the latest technologies. The audio-visual experience delivered by the state-of-art technology infused into the beautiful architecture is truly commendable. This auditorium is marked by the presentations, conferences and events of some of the world-renowned scientists and artists. 

These are the several divisions of Birla Auditorium:

Main Auditorium

The seating capacity of the main auditorium is around 1350 people at a time. This is the perfect space for holding conferences, public lectures, and cultural programs 

Medium-Conference Hall

It is a well-maintained conference hall with a seating capacity of around 150-200 persons. This hall mainly hosts group discussions, meetings, seminars, and lectures.

Meeting Halls

The entire auditorium consists of six meeting rooms including two board rooms. This is because space can be used for more than one session simultaneously. Each of them can accommodate around 25- 30 people who can occupy the seats.

AC Basement Hall

The AC Basement Exhibition Hall is spread across a huge area spanning 5424 square feet. The hall is divided into two parts of which the larger one is used for exhibitions, conferences, and seminars. Attached to it is the smaller one which measures 1488 square feet in area. This is also given for the exhibitions, conferences and seminars along with the main hall.

Non AC Hall

There is a Non- AC exhibition hall located on the ground floor of the building and is spread across 6500 square feet. Attached to it is the 7770 square feet Non- AC hall at the basement to use along with it. This hall is also used for various kinds of exhibitions. 

Museum Hall

The area of the Museum is located on the ground floor as well as the basement. Each of the halls measures 13000 sq. ft. These are mainly used for big exhibitions which can accommodate a hundred stalls under one roof.

Birla Planetarium, one of the most renowned and widely acclaimed planetariums across the country. Since its inception, the Planetarium is among the best lookout spots in Jaipur, especially for the students and tourists having an interest in science and astrology. Birla Planetarium is an institute of education, science and research. It has been a great institute for people to explore different facets of astronomy. It is a place where the general public can understand the lesser-known world of stars and galaxies.

Here several National and international seminars are hosted. These seminars are on subjects such as celestial mechanics, space science, astrophysics and history of astronomy and also about famous astronomers, stars, planets. It also trains youngsters about night sky mysteries, the evolution of earth and universe, planets and their details.

History

Inaugurated by then Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1963, the planetarium of Jaipur was once the largest in Asia and one of its kind in India. It was built on an acre of land leased by the West Bengal Government. Presently, the assets of the planetarium and the planetarium belong to ‘Birla Institute of Fundamental Research’.

Architecture: The magnificent Planetarium has a hall with a huge dome built in old and contemporary Indian architecture with alluring white marble which makes it a great space for holding events in Jaipur. Other than the dome, the Planetarium complex also houses an astronomical observatory which has many powerful telescopes including Celestron C-14 telescope and accessories such as ST6 CCD Camera, Solar Filter, etc. The Planetarium is also equipped with an Electronics Laboratory for design and fabrication of scientific equipment.

Birla Planetarium hosts regular audio-visual educational programs and sky shows on concepts of astronomy. These sky shows can be quite intriguing and engrossing because of their debate over some important themes like the cosmos and celestial world. 

Activities at Birla Planetarium

Among the main activities, Birla Planetarium has designed different astronomical projects, conducts many seminars, and organizes educational interactive sessions and live sessions for the students to help in their science education. The interactive sessions help regain the long lost knowledge of the celestial world and generate curiosity among young minds. It also organizes astronomical expeditions regularly for the studies of Solar Eclipses and other celestial events.

The planetarium is a part of the Birla Institute of Scientific Research that encourages scientific education and research. It has a collaboration with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS, Pilani) where they started postgraduate courses in Astronomy and Planetarium Sciences along with an M. Phil course in the same subject for students of different grades.

Lawns

There are lush green lawns in the centre of the auditorium which are mainly used for organising lunch and dinner. There are many lawns altogether. Of them, two are small triangular ones measuring 5500 square feet each and one is a bigger one that’s rectangular in shape. These are spread across 14,000 square feet of land. There is one more lawn attached to the auditorium. The type of lawns they let you use for lunch and dinner depends on what kind of program or festival is being hosted.

Parking Space

The auditorium also has a huge parking area that can provide parking spaces for almost all guests at a time including valet parking facilities.

Other Facilities

The auditorium also provides other additional facilities such as public telephone booths, high-speed internet, onsite catering and power supply. If any visitor finds difficulty arranging proper accommodation, the auditorium authorities also provide hostel facilities for them.

Shows timings at B. M. Birla Auditorium Jaipur

The B. M. Birla Auditorium is open from 10:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening on all days of the week. The auditorium authorities organize six shows throughout the day. The show timing starts from the morning and lasts till the evening. The timings are 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 7:00 pm in Hindi; and 6:00 pm in English.

Entry Fees of B. M. Auditorium Jaipur

The entry charges are Rs 40.00 for children and Rs. 60 for adults. For booking a show at Birla Planetarium there is an additional fee of Rs. 20. You can also book online but make sure they are not already booked.

The B. M. Birla Auditorium is located in the heart of the city near to the Statue Circle at the Prithvi Raj Road in Rambagh, Jaipur. While Birla Planetarium Jaipur is located inside the same premises.
