Income tax raids on 33 areas in Jaipur

33 places in Jaipur associated with a business group raided by Income Tax. Transactions worth 40 crores disclosed, 10 locker keys found.

The Income Tax department executed probes at 33 commercial and residential premises in Jaipur belonging to a group involved in a wide range of businesses involving jewellery, real estate, hotels, hospitals and construction in Jaipur and Kota. The businessman came on the radar after his daughter’s most expensive marriage.

The investigations were conducted at 33 places in Jaipur and 4 places in Kota belonging to Alok Kotawala. He has hotel, horticulture and construction work. In 2016, this businessman spent unaccounted money on his daughter’s wedding.

The inquiry is being performed at several locations including Kotawala Market, Tripolia Bazar, the offices of Central Orchids Pvt Ltd, residences, offices and showrooms. The places where the inquiry was performed in Kota comprise Devashish City and Akash Cinema Hall.

The premises that were surveyed include hotelier Alok Kotawala’s Royal India Jewellery Manufacturing Company Pvt Ltd at Malviya Nagar in Jaipur, hotels being built in Malviya Nagar, his partner’s Hotel Ashish in Hattori and showroom Unique Arts on MI Road and other constructions near Ramniwas Bagh.

The IT department crews found transaction papers and 10 locker keys worth about 40 crores from his premises. Also, evidence of unaccounted property and online transactions has been found. The investigation involved more than 200 officers-employees. Evaluation to inspect unaccounted wealth and tax evasion is still in process.

Alok Kotawala was on the department’s radar since his daughter’s Royal Grand Wedding in December 2016 at Udaipur’s Udaivilas Hotel. This wedding is considered one of the top 10 weddings in India. Kotawala’s daughter was married to Yashvardhan Lohia, son of Alok Lohia and nephew of Prakash Lohia of the Indonesian textile and petrochemical company Indorama Corporation Group, the second richest in Bangkok. Many foreign artists, politicians, sports persons, and Bollywood and Hollywood celebrities were invited. Also, event planners and catering were from abroad.
