Guidelines for international passengers updated

The government has modified the travelling protocols for international passengers. Here's an updated list of guidelines for travellers flying to India from abroad.

News

With growing cases of Covid during the ongoing third wave, the government has released a new list of guidelines for travellers coming from abroad to India. The guidelines came into effect recently. Here’s the updated information.

The list of guidelines has been updated. In the current revised list, there are a few relaxations offered. India has listed 19 countries under the ‘countries at risk’ column for international travellers. All international travellers arriving in India will all have to follow a host of pre and post-arrival formalities and go through mandatory checks.

The new norms in details

As per the amended guidelines, passengers will now be given the option to quarantine at their homes instead of government facilities. After a 7 day home quarantine, RT-PCR will be done on the 8th day.

As per the new norms, the passengers are required to upload a self-declaration form on Air Suvidha, and a negative RT PCR test report taken within 72 hours, before the trip.

All travellers, including those landing from ‘not at risk’ countries will have to go through thermal screening, whereas travellers from “at-risk” countries will also have to take a self-paid COVID test on arrival. These passengers are not allowed to leave or take a connecting flight while waiting for the results of the test.

Passengers testing negative will be required to quarantine for 7 days and upload the report of a retest on the 8th day. While those testing positive for the virus, will be given the option to isolate themselves at home as per standard protocol, and their samples will be sent for genome analysis.

Children below 5 years excused from pre and post-arrival testing

Passengers sitting in close surroundings with a covid positive passenger, like those seated in the same row, 3 rows in front and behind along with specified cabin crew, will also be ordered to home quarantine.

Children under 5 years of age are freed from both pre-and post-arrival testing. However, if found symptomatic for COVID-19 on arrival, they shall undergo testing and follow the mentioned protocol.

With mandatory government isolation where travellers were forced to quarantine in isolation facilities, the relaxation offered came as a big relief to the citizens. Isolation at home will provide the passengers with an option to recover at home. They will have to upload the COVID test result after seven days to the online portal.
