The Rajasthan government has banned the sale of firecrackers and all kinds of fireworks from Friday across the state, citing the possibility of a third wave of the corona. This ban will be in effect from 1 October to 31 January next year.
The Home Department has issued an advisory to ban firecrackers for the next four months. Hence, this year there will be no fireworks on Dussehra and Diwali. The orders have been given to all the collectors. The allotment of temporary licenses of firecrackers has also been banned till January 31 next year.
As per the advisory, experts have expressed the possibility of a third wave of the corona. Fireworks were banned last year given the difficulty in breathing the fumes for the corona-infected people. Fireworks smoke causes great suffering to old, sick people, asthma and covid patients. Given this, it is necessary to ban fireworks this year also.
Last year too, the government had banned the sale of firecrackers and fireworks on Diwali, citing breathing problems for the patients. This is the second year in a row that the government has taken such a decision.
Every year, a large number of temporary licenses are issued on Diwali at the district level in Rajasthan. The decision to ban will affect businesses worth one thousand crores and traders will suffer huge losses. Not just the state, the Delhi government had also prohibited the sale of firecrackers.
