After postponing this three times over the last year, the transport department officials finally decided to implement the court ban on permitting commercial diesel vehicles to ply on road. The decision will come into effect from March 31 in five cities of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Alwar and Jodhpur.

Currently, the decision would only be impeached in five cities of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Alwar and Jodhpur. While for other cities, the commercial vehicles will get an RTO permit at a higher price. The court had issued an order in this regard to curb pollution.

According to a transport department officer, “Commercial vehicles which are older than 15 years will no longer be able to get permits and fitness certificates from RTOs in Rajasthan. The new rule will be implemented from March 31.”

The order will impact over 1 lakh commercial vehicles in Jaipur, Alwar, Kota, Udaipur, and Jodhpur. Of these the largest number of such vehicles will be impacted in Jaipur. Jaipur has nearly 40,000 commercial vehicles operating on diesel. The next city to be affected is Jodhpur with 20,000 vehicles. While Udaipur and Kota with 15,000 vehicles, and Alwar with 12,000 vehicles.

The court order was issued by the department about a year ago. It kept extending the date rather than implementation of the orders. The deadlines were issued three times over the past year.
