Anti-national slogans raised in Jaipur Literature Festival, five in custody

The ongoing mega event of literature, JLF-2020 at Diggi Palace raised the issue of NRC and CAA protests on Sunday. Five activists were detained for shouting slogans against amended citizenship law during a session at the Jaipur Literature festival.

The incident happened during the session of Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai. At this time, some activists reached outside the front lawn near the main gate of the venue at Diggi Palace and started shouting slogans in protest against NRC and CAA.

The protesting youths raised slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Hum Lekar rahenge Azadi’ including issues of NRC, CAA. They were also opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Aditya Nath. Sudden shouting of slogans brought the police personnel and private security personnel present there into action. They immediately caught the shouting youth and pushed them out.

According to the information, these activists were taken to the Ashok Nagar police station where they were interrogated. The activists described themselves as the students of JNU while the police did not receive any identity card or any certificate from them in this regard. It is being told that the five youths had reached JLF through Participant Pass. However, they were released later after a warning of not to repeat such an act again.

Being a weekend, thousands of people were present at the JLF venue on Sunday. This sudden incident stirred up the venue. The audience got in rage by the slogans of the activists and they proceeded to beat the students but in the meantime, the police and security guards ran to the spot and took over the situation.

Yogesh Dadhich, DCP of Jaipur Police, told that a team of 5 activists came in 4 groups. After one group was caught, 3 other groups managed to escape. It is being ascertained why and for what purpose these young men came and raised the slogans at the Jaipur Literature Festival.
