Rajasthan gets a unique initiative under the International Reading Campaign 2021. A mobile library using camels started in remote areas of Rajasthan benefiting the students. This one-of-its-kind library has around 1,500 books.

This initiative was started with an aim to reach those students who are not able to attend online classes due to pandemics. The ship of the desert camel is used to supply the nooks to them on a regular basis. This camel-borne mobile library started in the internal areas of Jodhpur in the areas where cars and other vehicles couldn’t reach due to rough terrains and desert areas. Through this drive, the authorities are fueling the lamp of education for children in far-flung areas of the state.

The launch of this scheme has been possible with the collective efforts of the state Education Department and ‘Room to Read’ under the International Reading Campaign 2021. This ingenious movable inventory has nearly 1,500 books, most of which are related to stories and drawing. Now, the drive will make sure that the students can read and write regularly within their homes.

Room to Read has also implemented other campaigns with the themes of “India gets reading at home” and “Nahin rukenge nanhe kadam, Ghar par reh kar bhi sikhenge hum”.
